The Cleansing Ritual

The cleansing of the participants requires the celebrant to splash salted water upon all who will be operating within the consecration circle.
This represents the spiritual cleansing of the participants, which include the bridal couple, the 4 gatekeepers, the celebrant's assistant and any one else involved.
Incidentally, salted water does not harm clothing.
